Edward Mead, a distinguished law professor, acts as special prosecutor. Special Agent Sarah Riehl sees the case as her one chance to shatter the suffocating glass ceiling that has defined her ten-year career at the FBI. To potentially complicate matters, the prosecuting team is an unlikely pairing of an aging law professor, Edward Meade, and an attractive young FBI agent. What could possibly go wrong? WOW this was a great read! I was hooked after the first few pages. The characters are colorful and each one of them could of done it. I love reading about things that take place back in Ohio! Micheal's descriptions of the places and areas around Cleveland are great! I've read a lot of books in the last 30 plus years I have been able to read. I also am surprised by the rave reviews. This was my least favorite of Michael's books.

I was surprised by the lawyer's comments about Michael's lack of research about legal matters including law, courtrooms, etc. Michael is very familiar with the courtroom and the legal system as he spent part of his life there. While I applaud the concept behind the book, I felt each of his books has become more intentionally including language and situations not needed for the story. Swiger does it again.

Throughout the nineties Michael attended graduate school at the Reformed Theological Seminary, working toward a Master's degree in Theology. But who hates him enough to murder him in his own chambers?

In his fourth novel, rookie novelist Michael Swiger has once again produced a captivating piece. Edward Mead, fresh off the loss of his loving wife, is faced with solving the heinous murder of Judge Chesterfield; a widely unpopular megalomaniacal jurist whose death is at the hand of a lawyer trying a messy civil trial in his courtroom. Michael has woven a tightly twisted who-done-it. The cast of characters are identifiable and brought to life in a way that keeps the reader interested from page one. Edward Mead, a distinguished law professor, acts as special prosecutor. No one knows the secret pain he hides, because he masks his inner turmoil behind a razor-sharp wit.
