The author changes tenses several times and mixes up a few apostrophes, but the subject matter was fascinating enough to have kept me reading. A scary look at what oxycontin can do to people. Reads like a novel but with a real message. Addiction is no joke. I appreciate the author sharing his life through this book. I can't imagine going through all this. I'm sure it was cathartic to write. An exceptional book, breaks your heart. Hard to handle truths for any parent walking in these same shoes. I have read over twenty books in the addiction genera but this book wins in my category. The story begins by creating a plot which is fairly unusual for an addiction memoir but exciting. I will not give away the plot but what the father did in order to keep his son out of jail is the craziest thing I have ever heard of. Some might call him the ultimate enabler, but what the author did for his son and the way the book sets up what the father did makes for a read that will keep you turning pages.
Anything But My Own Skin. The author's way of relating his own past experiences during the sting operation had me continuously reading chapter by chapter. Then as you start reading more into the book you find yourself wanting to know if the father is able to save his own son from being locked up in jail and through his drug addiction. This book was an emotional yet very powerful read capturing a father's endless love for his child.
The family's dirty little secret may have been revealed but the impact that this book can show to other families dealing with a loved one who has a drug addiction can help give the family courage to not give up on that person, and continuously provide love and support into helping them battle their way through drugs to becoming sober. Thank you for sharing your story I wish I was strong like you. Anyone that is close to someone with a drug addiction can relate.
