So a state whose power is based upon a specific current era game mechanic would have incentives to prevent progress and reform, while others might drive forward to create more advantageous positions.

See, this is totally their plan with eu4's age mechanic. It's nothing but a test so that in eu5 they can expand the timeline dramatically and have mechanics change through the ages As space travel advances assuming you haven't conquered the world you can compete with other world empires in space. Soon, there's multiple space empires spread around the local solar systems, all based form seperate Earthan countries. Eventually, you start a new colonial system on unsuspecting aliens across the galaxy, and humans genocide and conquer That's a sci-fi novel I wanted for a long time.

Every other one has each race with its only one empire. Which to me never made sense. I doubt we would ever get to be unified as a species and I doubt every space faring species would either. A version of CK2 which has 10 times as many provinces and is much more detailed and historically accurate rather than a map-painting simulator. Mods are your way to go. When the World Stopped Making Sense is also very detailed, but starts at the fall of rome, and sort of altered. What would be interesting in CK would be having a different liege for different holdings.

Yeah the government, political systems, pops, and industry of vic2 and the war of hoi3 would make me nut. That is kinda what they tried with stellaris. Even though stellaris doesnt use levies. They simplified everything which is fine if done correctly but in addition, they made it so you have to micromanage everything instead of actually simulating the experience of a space empire with at least some degree of accuracy by making a living, breathing, set of functions and systems as an accurate grand strategy potrayal of a galaxy and the political entity within.

Rather we have a slightly complex, slightly deep, wide, piece of shit 4x game simulating the playing of a grand strategy rather than actually giving the grand strategy experience. That would be really cool. I'm interested in learning more about that part of the world, and I can't think of a better way than obsessively playing a Paradox game until I know the ins-and-outs of the history and inner geography of the region.

I wouldn't have any money if they did that. As far as gs games I'd like something set in antiquity Rome 2 or something else , a newer game set in feudal Japan and I dunno maybe something set in the present day. Really though I want them to make an rpg. Not to publish one but to make one in house. That might sound strange since they're known for grand strategy games but they're talented people and I think they could do an rpg "paradox style " really well. Like they create a massive, incredibly detailed world with loads of warring factions, thousands of pre scripted characters and millions of randomly generated ones.

Maybe there's like five story scenarios that you can choose from at the beginning or whatever and they're all super interesting and well written but a big part of the appeal of the game is the sandbox type stuff. You can get married, have children, open a restaurant, become an outlaw, raise an army conquer one of the factions and then play it basically like a gsg but one where you can interact with everything and you're not just stuck in permanent map mode. It's as gorgeous as the witcher, as fun as mount and blade but with paradox style complexity and detail. Do it paradox do it! It'll sell like crazy, the stock will go to a thousand kronor and then I can retire!

Not with the claustwitz engine and with a grand strategy approach. Closer I've played is Age of Wonders and it's not nearly the same thing. A cold war Grand Strategy game along the lines of HoI, but that doesn't expect a huge war to actually break out between the world powers. Optimally it'd have a huge focus on intelligence and espionage, and the goal would be to try and expand and have your bloc dominate the world order without actually sparking a huge war.

Maybe you could even decide the major powers and their ideologies before the game starts, too. Oh there definitely has to be a possibility of this happening for the game to work. I mean, that's what the Cold War was all about. I mean, I guess the game could just end if and when that big red button is pressed That doesn't mean there are no mechanics for warfare in the game. If a war begins, you should definitely be able to play it.

You know for a fact that the war is coming, so you always begin mobilizing and picking your targets while every development tree delves into war goals for each nation. HoI is on rails in that sense, because you're always anticipating the war. A Cold War game should make the player want to avoid war at all costs because a war would not be worth it for expansion; the huge cost in lost population and development should be reflected in the mechanics, especially if outright total nuclear annihilation occurs.

There should be heavy penalties in either the final score or the probability of maintaining your country if a war breaks out so that players don't immediately resolve to declare war at some point to blob as far as they can. This would encourage shady proxy wars, coups to spread your ideology and sphere of influence, and an arms race so the opposing bloc can't annihilate you before you have the capacity to annihilate them.

There is an economy, trade, diplomacy, religion, and very basic army management. Through a layer of abstraction, you have to keep your commoners and nobles happy, produce a wide variety of goods, and deal with a variety of events such as your liege demanding goods, or the nomads invading. A real Cold War or modern day game that is capable of simulating the economy, internal politics, and diplomacy without being obtuse.
