Lady of Mercy (Sundered, book 3) by Michelle Sagara

I read Lady of Mercy a year after I finished the series. The writing was compelling, lyrical to the point that even if the events unfolds slowly and I knew what happened next I was riveted. Dec 04, Huijia Li rated it it was ok Shelves: I would really choose 2. I've been looking to complete the series for ages, and had just re-read BK 2 in the series before this.

I thought the second book was fine, but this book seemed to have pacing problems. Plus I didn't really care for the in-chapter jumps in POV, it felt a little scattered.

Jan 05, Syd Dickson rated it liked it Shelves: I still felt like we didn't have Erin as narrator often enough in this one, I like Darin well enough, but the first book was nothing but Erin, and that's who I want to hear about. There was definitely more going on in this one in comparison to the previous two and there was a nice little twist at the end. Aug 17, Cyn Armistead rated it really liked it.

Review of entire series posted under Chains of Darkness, Chains of Light. Feb 10, Gaynell rated it really liked it Shelves: I really liked this book. I would never have guessed who Trethar was in a million years. I didn't trust him at first, but after he was really helping Erin, Darin, and Renar to retake Dagothrin, I decided that I must have been wrong.

Little did I know that he had his own agenda. Jul 19, Jake Langthorn rated it really liked it. This review applies to the Sundered Series as a whole. Clearly this is a beginning effort, but already, West shows the imagination that marks her later works. This is terrific stuff. Yes, it is dark, but even with the awkward writing style, it is very powerful.

Jun 27, Renmarie56 rated it liked it. I liked this one far better than the second book Children of the Blood and I'll gladly read get the last book from the library. Apr 02, Heather added it. Aug 05, Bernice rated it liked it. I liked this series more for the fact that I had the misfortune of seeing what it could have been with a lesser author writing it in the horrible Fallen World series by Laura Thalasssa.

I gave this one four stars because it was the first of the Series where I actually felt like there was some real hope for the future LOL. The first two books I found pretty dark. Oct 07, Mei rated it it was ok Shelves: More high fantasy and it was not to my taste, but that doesn't mean it was bad fantasy. It was a little slow-moving but there is a lot of world-building going on; it just didn't click for me. Aug 17, Al rated it it was ok.

Slow start, and doesn't capture the tension of the attraction between Erin and the First that made the predecessors in this series interesting.

Why the not so enthusiastic review? West did a terrific job making me care about Erin and Stefanos, the two protagonists in the first book.

The second, although less focused on their relationship, contained the necessary plot developments meant to further the story; furthermore, the ending of the 2nd book made it all worth while. That said, the 3rd book, based upon just the literary merits, is still a good read but caused apprehension because of what is happening with Erin. Now that Erin is on the run while discovering remaining allies of the Light in unexpected places, she must come to terms with the betrayal of her kin at the hands of her husband and love, Stefanos.

Lady of Mercy

The third book really grapples with the difficulties in reconciling the love she feels for Stefanos, or Lord Darclan: It's a tough question Can love survive something like this? But one thing is for sure I felt ambivalent about this 3rd book because of Erin's state of mind since, despite the incompatibility between the Light and the Darkness, I had hoped that Erin and Stefanos could overcome those difference with their love too sentimental, I guess! Other than my slight unhappiness with what is going on with Erin, the actual book itself is still very well-written, developing the events that will lead to the imminent insurrection against the Dark.

I think the fact that I was so affected by what was occuring shows that Ms. With the help of the deposed crown prince of Marantine and the Patriarch of Culverne, Erin intends to free the people she failed so many years before. The High Priests compete for supremacy, and even the nobility of the Dark Empire has begun to feel the burder of their never-ending war. Erin is determined to free the Light and release her long dead friends from the purgatory of the Dark Heart. She must once more journey into the heart of the Dark Lands to confront the legacy of Lady Sara and the inevitable destiny of the lines, forcing her heart toward a final confrontation with her most formidable and ancient enemy — the man she loves.
